Milky Stool

oiled oak and Karlite, 32x28 cm

The project is rooted in childhood memories of my grandparents’ modernist house by Lake Balaton and a traditional three-legged milking stool from their Hungarian folk art collection. Inspired by the striking contrast between vernacular craft and modernist architecture, I developed my own contemporary interpretation of the three-legged stool. My stool is an object of today: it is made entirely from recycled and recyclable materials. The seat is crafted from wood, whose lathed form allows for a perfectly curved, comfortable surface. The legs are made of Karlite: a waterproof and colourful, unexpected material choice that gives the piece its distinctive character.
